Over the years I have been successful in making up three Field Trial Champions, and have won with every labrador I've trained. Some of my dogs are mentioned below.
- FTCH Monty of the Lake: I made up (Monty) the very first labrador retriever I ever trained, which was originally purchased as a pet for my wife Joanna to Field Trial Champion Monty of the Lake.
- FTCH Lakedown Sedge: I then made up my second Field Trial Champion, Sedge. Sedge’ full litter sister, FTCH Lakedown Damsel (owned and handled by Mike Brown) qualified for the IGL Championship for three consecutive years. Both her and Sedge were labradors I bred out of my first bitch, Field Trial Winner Lakedown Lillibutt and sired by Roger Tozers' Field Trial Champion Birdbrook Arrow of Craigfelin.
- FTCH Connemara Twinkle of Lakedown: By this stage I decided to set new targets. With the first Field Trial Champion I made up having been bought, and the second I made up being a male which I had also bred, my aim was to make a female up to Field Trial Champion, which I subsequently achieved in 2007 with Field Trial Champion Connemarra Twinkle of Lakedown (Ruby). Tom Scobie bred Ruby using Field Trial Champion Lakedown Sedge on his open field trial winning bitch pwll-y-wier mint. Sedge also went on to sire Field Trial Champion Eastdale Gus who also qualified for the IGL Championship for two consecutive years.
At present (2010)
I now have a new target, to make a yellow labrador retriever up to Field Trial Champion.
At the moment I have a nice black male, Field Trial Winner Lakedown Luna Landing (Murphy), sired by FTCH Levenghyl Peacock (Buzz) and out of FTCH Connemara Twinkle of Lakedown (Ruby). Murphy is two and a half years old and won the first trial he competed in the 2009 season with the Hampshire Gundog Society. He could possibly be the kennel's next champion.
I also have a very nice yellow labrador male, Lakedown Lightening (Fred), sired by FTCH Eastdale Guss and out of FTCH Connemara Twinkle of Lakedown. Field Trial Champion Lakedown Sedge being the grand sire on both sides of this pedigree. Ruby (FTCH Connemara Twinkle of Lakedown) will be eight years old in spring 2010 and I am currently looking for a nice FTCH stud to use in order retain a female pup from this litter and keep the line going.
